Dr. Darlene H Schmidt Texas State University, retiree Gymnastics experience: Competed as a college student way back when at Western Illinois in Macomb (even went to the Olympic Trials one of those years). Started high school gymnastics team in Carlsbad New Mexico in the 60s and coached there and at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) until retiring. Trained judges in the early years here in Texas, judged a little at high school and USGA meets, but gave that up to concentrate on coaching. Hosted many collegiate meets while coaching in Texas. Along with my husband, Bill, owned a private gymnastics gym for ten years, competing in USAG meets. Started attending NAIGC meets in 1992 and have been to most of them since. I served as President of NAIGC for two years, on the "board" as it existed then, and still am interested in supporting this effort to provide an avenue for non scholarship gymnasts to compete for the Love of the Sport! Officer positions: President of the NM Gymnastics Association; President of the Texas USAG in the early years of the association; President of NAIGC; President and Exective Secretary of Gymnastics Association of Texas; Chairman of Gymnastics Section of TAHPERD; Advisor for Texas Gymnastics Conference, to mention a few. Additional Info: I am a licensed Ham radio operator, enjoy and support their efforts. My fondest hobby is singing in a barbershop chorus. I held every office in our local choruses that exist and enjoy going to contests every year. So, with gymnastics number one, of course, number two is four-part harmony!! |
