Words from our President - Ben Johnson

As the NAIGC Board of Directors completes our 4th year of existence, we are on track to make this go-around another successful one.  Each of the past several years has been marked by steady progress in our organization's development, alongside a barrage of new challenges.   This year has been no different; the NAIGC is continuing to expand our resources and service contributions, while challenges on various fronts have not slowed down.   We got a lot done this year in terms of software developments and improvements in communication; yet we also got a bit of a late start settling on a nationals location, resulting in some hotel challenges, transportation challenges, communication challenges, and many irons in the fire at the same time.  But this is how it goes; we are moving things along and going to make it all work.

Nationals 2010 will once again be the largest NAIGC Nationals ever held.  We are on track to reach nearly 700 individual competitors for the meet, representing more than 110 teams from more than 57 different clubs.  We will have more equipment this year with an extra floor, and we have an additional session for the men.  Combined-gender sessions should run smoothly this year with the additional floor space.  To meet transportation needs and to alleviate concerns with driving and renting vehicles, we have been organizing our event's own private transportation system using charter buses.  We are also in the last stages of negotiation for a host of other items.  I'll spare you these details, but they are moving along too.

I also wanted to briefly highlight some of the new technical developments that we either implemented this year, or are going to roll out at nationals.   First off, thanks in large part to our chief programmer, director Vincent Riot, we now have a fully automated online payment system for nationals and membership.  In its first year the payment system has already been quite popular, as we have received an overwhelming majority of registration and membership payments online.  We also made available, new for this competition season,  a web-based registration and scoring system for hosts of local meets.  Many of you used our online system at meets throughout this season, and through your feedback the software is continuing to improve.  Thank you.  At the upcoming nationals, we will be using, for the first time, our own scoring system entirely, including our own score display system, and our own electronic score entry system for judges.  This project is in its final stages.  With a little luck we'll make it across the finish line with enough time to have a sandwich before preliminary session 1 begins.  Expect to enjoy it when you get here.

And with that I bid you all ado, until we see each other in San Marcos.

Benjamin Johnson
NAIGC Board of Directors, President
